Design with compassion and creativity for the classroom or boardroom.

My Design Philosophy

  • I live by my quote. For me, the classroom or LMS platform is a chance to reach an audience who may have been overlooked and dismissed prior to meeting me. I always look for the good in their work and push them toward it. The greatest educators I had were the ones who saw the best in me and pushed me toward it, and in kind, I will do the same for any student or employee who utilizes my work. Since I see myself just as much of a student as the people who sit before me, I design my course to be enlightening and entertaining for me, because if I cannot become passionate and enthused about the material, then I cannot expect my audience to be. I guide their enthusiasm for the material through careful study and development of assignments that are meant to engage the critical thinking aspects of any subject matter.

  • Training and classroom LMS should strive to inspire their stakeholders to implement the information garnered from the design. The mind is a fascinating mechanism that we can train and expand upon at will. It wants to absorb, it wants to enrich and with that ability, education can foster an environment of hope and ambition for a student, and an environment they helped establish.

  • The LMS and the design of the materials given to the stakeholders should educate in a way the stakeholders have not seen before. The information should always include new elements so there is a sense of worthwhileness to the assessment. I encourage my audience to reach the high expectations I have of them because I believe in their greatness. I have no reason not to. Whether it’s analyzing the Ancients or simply reviewing training material, every opportunity positioned is a chance to reach a stakeholder and make them curious about their potential. I challenge them to push through their comfort zones and stretch themselves.

Student Testimonials

  • "I just wanted to let you know that your class was the most enjoyable, insightful, and meaningful class I have taken in college so far. Your assignments, as well as your feedback, brought me so much joy as well as knowledge on the topics we covered throughout the course. I think your style of presenting the information was exceptional and the assignments were actually enjoyable. I never felt like it was boring, or as if I was dreading doing any of the assignments."

    -S.R., Former Student

  • “It has been a pleasure studying the humanities under your guidance. I also enjoyed the videos and the threaded discussions.”

    -C.H., Former Student

  • “My overall impressions of this class are positive. When I found out that I had to take a humanities class for a computer networking degree, I was put off by it. Now that I’m at the end of this class I can say that it was a great break from all the computer knowledge I’m learning. The class was well-paced, and the topics taught were engaging. The topics I liked learning about most were ancient Greek societies and Gothic/Italian Renaissance cathedral architecture."

About Carolyn

For 13 years, I’ve been creating and educating both online and on campus, for three different colleges. I’ve worked with several LMS, including Angel, Canvas, Blackboard, Softchalk, and Brightspace. I’ve incorporated visual elements, such as Microsoft Sway Newsletters, Microsoft Publisher Newsletters, Powerpoints, Vimeo Videos, YouTube videos, ScreenPal (formerly Script-o-matic video editing), Animaker and more.

Currently, I have a Masters in Humanities, a Masters in Arts - Creative Writing, and a Doctorate in Education - Teaching and Learning.

I have ample experience with ADA requirements for design; I’ve worked with traditional, nontraditional, adult and dual enrollment students, all in inclusive classrooms. I’ve dedicated my approach to teaching and design within the ADDIE and Bloom’s Taxonomy concepts, because I believe that stakeholders should implement and grow from the material given to them, not just memorize and repeat.
